[Alt.Kilt]Steampunk Alt.Skirt and Sale!

Custom Steampunk Alt.Skirt

The Alt.Kilt Steam Shop is having a 20% off sale in celebration of our traveling to Penguicon (http://www.penguicon.org/) for the first time! We have done conventions in WI, MN and IL but never Michigan so we are excited to be driving that far to meet some new people. Everything Steampunk (and our basic kilt style) is marked the sale price from now till the end of day on April 9th. If you would like delivery of your purchase at the convention, add a note to your order and we will refund the shipping cost to you. We love custom work so please, if you are looking for something unique, send us a note and we will be happy to work with you. Thank you!

And speaking of custom work... we did a photo shoot last weekend with AB Mann that featured a custom built Steampunk mini-skirt I did for a client last November for WindyCon. We were finally able to pin her down to get some photos. This skirt featured a different design than our standard version of the kilt - including ghosted gears and a smaller removable pocket (mainly because the skirt was shorter)! We had a lot of fun doing this shoot and let our client play with power tools.

[Alt.Kilt Update] Beta Upgrade Program (Includes other manufacturers)

Over the past three years, we have made some significant changes to our kilt design. We have remade the cargo pockets so they hold more stuff better, changed our back pockets to include a cover flap and have altered both the inner and outer aprons in order to have a smoother pleat transition and more movement. Our current kilt design is the best that we have put out there and the feedback we have gotten is excellent and encouraging! Now, it is time to give everyone a chance to have our best product.

Consider this your kilt's 3,000 mile check up!

If you have one of our earlier designs - be it for cargo pockets, back pockets or apron - we would love to remake that kilt for you so you can wear our best design. From now till the end of 2009, we will accept trade-in kilts, with a fee of $75 (for custom basic kilts), $150 (for specialty kilts) or $50 (for skirts), and mail you back a new up-to-date style. This is also a perfect time to upgrade - contact us at techdragon@altkilt.com if you want to swap out your old style for a specialty kilt such as the Steampunk kilt and we will work out a suitable trade-in value.

If you have yet to try out our kilts... well, we would love to give you the chance. This offer is also available if you want to trade out an old kilt by another manufacturer. Same fee for materials and shipping and we will send you a new Alt.Kilt to wear.

[Alt.Kilt Steampunk] Steampunk Welder's Kilt

Custom Made Steampunk Welders' Kilt - for [livejournal.com profile] jeffreyp.

Made from dual sided heavy canvas, this kilt is almost indestructible. It features a hand-panted patina accented with antique brass hardware and rivets but also leather and fabric patching due to wear and tear. There is a dual cargo pocket on the left hip with antique brass box latches as closures and also a custom made, by the owner, initial metal stamping burned into the leather. The right side has a dark green inset panel, lacing on the hip and also a small key pocket; one of the belt loops has been replaced in leather and helps support a brass clip. The apron has three small gear buttons to help keep in closed while working in the shop and a leather cross panel for added protection and security. This well-loved and apparently well-worked-in kilt is a unique statement.

[Alt.Kilt Updates] Sewing Help Needed!

I would prefer to hire friend or friends of friends who could use the money...So I am posting this here publicly so people can pass it around.

Sewing Help Needed!

Looking for stitchers who are local to the Minneapolis/St. Paul (and surrounding suburbs) area to start immediately on straight line sewing piece work. Some basic experience needed - most home sewers will find this to be quite easy. All you need is a single needle home or industrial machine and an iron. Persons who also have a serger could have additional work available to them.

All pieces would be dropped off fully marked and prepped for sewing. I will provide instructions and a demo piece to explain the process. I also supply all fabric and matching thread (either in cone or spool). I need a one week or less turn around time on each set - ranging from 5-10 pieces, at about 50 lines of stitching per piece.

Starting pay is $8 per piece - each piece should take about 45 minutes. With consistent speedy returns, I will raise the pay to $10 a piece. Also, if able to take on other project, I will pay accordingly. Pieces will be inspected for quality before payment.

I am looking for people I can get work to by this weekend! Please email me at techdragon @ altkilt . com ! Thank you!

[Alt.Kilt Update] New Pockets and Larger Sizes.

I never understood why people who needed a larger size kilt got charged more for the product... sure, I mean, I know that it takes more fabric but if your cost are in line with your prices, you should be able to handle a larger waist size without passing it on the client. It is called Customer Service (at least it is in my book).

One very prominent company charges $10 extra for size 39"-41", $20 extra for size 42"-44", $30 extra for 46"-48", $50 extra for 50"-52", $60 extra for 54"-56" ... and also an additional $45 extra for it to be cut for a "beer gut".

I do not charge extra for a larger waist size (and in reference to the above... most of my clients would count as "larger"!)

So, today, I mailed out such a kilt. My average client is between 36" - 44" waist size (this is actual inches, not pants sizes). This gentleman was a 73" waist. This kilt has 21 pleats and features extra belt loops, extra buttons for security and both cargo and back pockets.

No real good way to photograph it )

Also, after getting some feedback on the cargo pockets, I have decided to try out a different style to see if I can get more space in them with less pull. I worked these ones out for the above kilt... and need to product test them more.

[Alt.Kilt ] Buttons!

I am apparently addicted to finding cool new buttons to use on speciality projects. My supplier was having a clearance sale so I took everything that looked interesting to me. A box came today and I was so excited to see all the new buttons - it is too bad buttons don't need *big* boxes because then it would feel even more exciting.

I thought I would share some of these and see what you guys all thought. These are all the new styles - no need in showing off my old standards.
