Spend the day at the hospital....
We are back to weekly appointments + for the next 8 weeks.
White Cell Count: 4.7 (Normal = 4.0 - 12)
Hemoglobin:8.7 (Normal = 11.5 -14.5)
Platelet: 286 (Normal = 160 - 370)
ANC: 1500 (Normal = 1400 – 6600)
We start Delayed Intensfication today :( Skeeter had a spinal tap with chemo this morning plus he got vincristine and doxorubicin. Doxo is a new medicine that will kill his counts and really should make the rest of his hair go away. Delayed intensification is essencially 3 weeks of intensification (the first month repeated), one week break, and then three weeks of consolidation (the second month repeated but with new, different, stronger drugs). This second half is the worst one of the whole 3 year treatment. So far, Skeeter is adjusting well. He was not happy about getting accessed again (it had been a month since the last time).
He came to work with me today for a few hours since I am not sure how the rest of the week is going to work out - due to the new chemo. He is getting his PEG shot on Friday (dual shots in the legs) and because of the risk of allergic reaction we were given an epipen. Grr. I really hope I do not have to stick him with it.
He starts the steroid again (7 days on, 7 days off, 7 days on again). I hate the steroid because it makes me overly hungry, crappy and moody. Hopefully this time he won't crash off it.
ENT has finally (2 months later) decided to make Skeeter a retainer if we want it. This is to keep things from passing through the hole in the roof of his mouth into his nasel cavity. Skeeter is so used to the hole already that I am not sure I want to add something else into the whole mix. Something more to think about.
All in all.... Time for round four.

Not having done the pediatric oncology piece, just the adult one, I did not realize that his whole treatment process was going to be a 3 year ordeal.

I think we are going to skip the retainer... I think he would hate it anyway.
