I know many of you have been following this but it finally made the front page of CNN.

South Dakota law bans nearly all abortions
http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/03/06/sd.abortionban.ap/index.html

The bill would make it a crime for doctors to perform an abortion unless the procedure was necessary to save the woman's life. It would make no exception for cases of rape or incest. Planned Parenthood, which operates the state's only abortion clinic, in Sioux Falls, has pledged to challenge the measure in court.

It is very sad this actually passed. I did not think SoDak was that bassackwards. Just pathetic. The whole thing looks like it is there to test the new makeup of the SCOTUS. Makes me weep for the future.

I think that is the 12th state to pass something, but the most restrictive.

It sucks.

I'm too depressed for words about that particular topic. So I don't even know why I'm commenting. I guess it's to say I agree.

During a segment about South Dakota's bill to ban most abortions, which offers no exceptions for cases of rape or incest unless the pregnant woman's life is in danger, state Sen. Bill Napoli (R) was asked if he could conceive of a scenario in which the exception might be invoked.

Indeed he could. "A real-life description to me would be a rape victim, brutally raped, savaged," he said. "The girl was a virgin. She was religious. She planned on saving her virginity until she was married. She was brutalized and raped, sodomized as bad as you can possibly make it, and is impregnated. I mean, that girl could be so messed up, physically and psychologically, that carrying that child could very well threaten her life."
