This is one thing that Really Pisses Me Off.

But The Rev. Fred Phelps:

is coming here to Madison to protest...

Madison East's Production of: "The Laramie Project"

..... *GRRRRRRR* Looks like many people on the [livejournal.com profile] madisonwi board are planning on protesting the protest by purchasing tickets and standing in line to see the show. I hate these people in my backyard.

Yes, but...

...be careful. When I did Laramie Project with the Madison Rep, he also was drawn to it, though he didn't actually come. I did some research, and he actually funds his church by going to these things, pissing people off to the point of them being violent, and then suing them and the institution.

So yeah, we should demonstrate (I can't go to the show, even though my Middle Daughter is the ASM, because I'm lighting another gig) but be careful. The last person to lose their temper wins.

I have crossed paths with them before but not up here - it was during a brief stay in Alabama that I had the *pleasure* of meeting this gang.

I will not be at the show either but I am glad to hear that most locals are just silently protesting by standing in line and purchasing tickets for the show.

...cuz I certainly think it's best to start teaching hate at least at high school age. :(
How can they preach God loves when they have no reservations about defacing a dead person by saying he's in hell.
I wish more churches were like some of those here in Madison. And I know the Madison churches will just see this as hate talk and ignore it.

When Phelps was in Madison just a few years ago, police had roped off his tiny corner of State and Carroll and stood guard. By mainly word of mouth, hundreds of gays and lesbians showed up for an impromptu show of support at the State St. entrance of the Capital, right across the street from him. Mark Pokan was there, but Tammy Baldwin couldn't make it in such short notice.

The little man went away. Sorry to hear he's returning.
