As is typical in LJ land...a debate has errupted on [livejournal.com profile] altparent in regards to circumcision. People get heated up over this- most of the norm is considering it totally body mutilation and abuse to a young child. One person even is quoted to say "NO way! Just looking at a cut penis should tell you that it's wrong. ". That comment really made me think.... (though this is a topic I like to think about). I happen to find both styles pleasing. So I as you, dear readers to add your opinions (and what is a paid account for besides weird polls and lots of user pics). For those of you at work I have tried to keep the language fairly PC but will put the poll behind a cut (hahaha!)

[Poll #734541]

(the last question (#7) can also relate as to why you would get your own son done or not) :)

[EDIT: The problem with polls is that you can not edit them after the fact and it is a guarantee that there will be some kind of mistake or oops! involved. Just work around the awkwardness of the poll, please... I didn't think all tha linear when I wrote it out in the heat of frustration :) ]

I'm not sure about the number of men and women who prefer cut vs. uncut partners, but these preferences may change a good deal as the number of men who are circumcised changes. Many people who are adults today are used to circumcised penises (30 years ago the circumcision rate in the U.S. was 85-90%) but since fewer boys are being circumcised in the U.S. today (a little over half are circumcised), in twenty years people will probably be familiar with uncircumcised ones.

According so far to the poll most people (males and females) like the cut penis and enjoy it and even prefer it so *why* aren't they still getting it done... why is it not the continuing aesthetic?

Because I think a lot of people are starting to think of it as unnecessary surgery, and that overrides their aesthetic concerns. In addition, many people probably realize that their own aesthetic preferences come from familiarity and habit. I'm willing to bet that in countries where circumcision is rare, most people prefer uncircumcised penises.

I've had considerably more experience with uncircumcised men then circumcised men, and I perfer circumcised men. For me it's not exactly an aesthetic concearn, since I sort of think all cocks are giggle-inducing; it's more of a pratical concearn. It's easier for me to put condoms on circumcised penises and it's a more pleasant oral sex-giving experience.

There's also the possible link between uncircumcised men, HPV and cervical cancer: American Cancer Society:
